Volunteer Coaches

Each WISL team must have a parent volunteer coach. Coaching in the WISL league is fun and easy. The following will explain what is involved.

Time involved: Approximately 1-1/2 hours per weekend (which includes the game time).

Volunteers Needed

  • Coach and/or Assistant Coach
  • Team Parent

Expertise in soccer is not a prerequisite. The indoor game is quite visual; basic tactics are readily grasped. Our referees are experienced coaches who can provide assistance (offering coaching tips, etc.) as needed. A summary of the rules of the game is provided on our “Rules” page. Coaches Orientation will be presented. Schedule TBA

Essential Tasks

Coaches:

  • Gather the team just prior to the game to determine positions.
  • Manage substitutions – the ongoing rotation of players in and out of the game; try to ensure equal playing time for each player.
  • Offer encouragement and strategy during the game.
  • Notify participants if there are schedule changes.

Team Parent:

  • Assist with any of the above as needed.
  • Organize snack schedule.

Parent volunteers play an essential role in the league’s success and frequently return in subsequent seasons with even greater enthusiasm.
