Our Spring Soccer program consists of afternoon weekday team practices and games on Saturdays. All sessions are at beautiful Hauke Park South in Mill Valley.
The combination of skills training during the week, with the opportunity to apply these skills in Saturday games provides players a great way to improve quickly and have lots of fun!
Teams will consist of 10 players. Build a team with your class or neighborhood friends! Each team's practices and games will be run by an outstanding and dedicated Dave Fromer Soccer coach. Parent volunteers will coach the teams for Saturday games. Dave Fromer Soccer coaches referee the Saturday games while providing additional coaching support for parent coaches and players.
Spring Soccer will follow all COVID-19 guidelines.
Small-Sided Games
Our Spring Soccer program provides a great mix of small-sided games (6v6). Players will increase their fitness, acquire new skills and enjoy the teamwork and camaraderie of the experience.
The fast-paced and fluid action keeps players constantly focused and highly engaged in the game.
By comparison with larger-sided games, small-sided games develop more quickness, and create more frequent opportunities for “touches on the ball”.
Small-sided games are popular world-wide and can easily happen informally or spontaneously day or night, with or without “proper” fields, teams, or ball.
Spring Soccer K–4
In partnership with Mill Valley Recreation, the Dave Fromer 2026 Spring Sessions program will be held at Hauke Park South, in Mill Valley, with each session led by Coach Marco, Coach Leandro, Coach Fabricio, Coach Nestor, Coach Laurent, Coach Kunta.
Spring Sessions will include warm-ups, foundational moves, skills/drills, and scrimmage games. Registration is open for players in Kindergarten - 4th grade, and will be broken into training groups by age, gender, skill and friend requests.
Weekly Practice: Players have the choice between sessions that will be held on Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday afternoons, and Saturdays mornings (players can attend for more than one weekly session).
Saturday Games K–4
Every Saturday we have small-sided games. Small-sided games provide the ideal environment for young players to discover soccer naturally. Through these intimate game settings, children experience more touches on the ball, make more decisions, and stay actively engaged throughout play. This approach transforms learning from instruction into exploration, allowing each child's natural curiosity and enthusiasm to drive their development.
Pre-K Classes
Available during the week and Saturday mornings.
PEEWEE Soccer for Ages 4-5 (Tuesdays) at 2:45pm
In PEEWEE Soccer, we create a warm, encouraging environment where little ones can explore the beautiful game at their own pace. Our coaches use games and playful activities to keep sessions fun and engaging while teaching the fundamentals. We focus on basic soccer concepts: dribbling, kicking, running, and scoring goals, developing social skills through teamwork and play, building confidence and coordination, creating a joyful experience that plants the seeds for a lifelong love of soccer
Our Philosophy: At ages 4-5, the goal isn't perfection—it's joy! Our coaches are trained to meet each child where they are, celebrate their efforts, and create a safe space where soccer becomes a game they can't wait to play again and again.
PEEWEE Soccer for Ages 3-4 (Thursdays) at 2:45pm (45 minutes)
Lawn Triangle Community Center
At this special age, soccer is all about fun, movement, and discovery! In PEEWEE Soccer for 3-4 year olds, we create a warm, playful environment where little ones explore the beautiful game at their own pace through games, not complex rules. We introduce basic ball familiarity and fundamental movement skills in ways that feel like pure play. We focus on fundamental movement (running, jumping, and building coordination through soccer games), kicking and dribbling with feet in a fun, pressure-free way and on social Interaction (Learning to listen, share, take turns, and play alongside friends) while introducing the concept of playing together in a playful, low-pressure environment
PEEWEE Soccer 3-5 (Saturdays) at 9am (45 minutes) and 10am (45 minutes)
Lawn Triangle Community Center (9am) and Hauke Park South (10am)

Coach/Team Members
A team consists of 10 players. Once a player is confirmed with the coach for playing on the team, they may register as a member of the team by noting their coach's name on the registration form. Coaches must submit a roster of their players and a team name. Players are added to teams with less than 10 players at the end of the registration period.

Unaffiliated Players
Players registering as unaffiliated players will be placed on teams. Whenever possible, requests for teammates will be honored.
We encourage parents to consider organizing a group of 10 players and entering as a team. DFS will add players to complete any teams with less than 10 players. A coach and/or team parent is required for each team. We offer flexibility for parent coaches to assist with weekday practices and/or to coach Saturday games. No prior coaching experience is necessary. We provide training for parent volunteer coaches.

Equipment & Uniforms
Uniforms are worn for Saturday games and may be purchased. Shinguards are not mandatory, but are strongly recommended. Goalkeepers may use goalie gloves and/or knee pads (we do not provide either). We provide balls, scrimmage vests, goals, and first-aid equipment.
We've created a convenient group for parents who would like to sell, buy, or trade uniforms and/or accessories with other parents. Join the group: Dave Fromer's Exchange Table. Uniforms may be worn for future Spring and Fall seasons.
Uniforms are available for purchase during registration.
Spring Soccer 2023 Format and Rules
Games are to be played 6 v 6. The format may be adjusted at times, based on attendance.
Substitutions can be made on any throw-in or free kick—goal kicks, corner kicks, etc. Coaches should alert the referees when they plan to sub, so the game can be paused.
All fouls (including handballs) result in INDIRECT FREE KICKS. There are no direct kicks or penalty kicks. On an indirect free kick, two players must touch the ball for a goal to be scored. (They don’t necessarily both have to be on the team taking the kick—a ball could carom off a defender or the goalie into the goal, for example.) If the first kicker plays the ball directly into the net, without it touching another player, the goal is disallowed, and a goal kick is awarded to the other team. On an indirect free kick, players on the defending team must be positioned at least 6 feet from the spot of the foul (where the kick is to be taken). They can charge in once the ball has been touched, but not before that.
Throw-ins need to be made properly; younger age groups will be given additional opportunities to correct foul throw-ins. Older age groups (5th grade and up) will play by standard rules, with a foul throw resulting in the other team receiving the ball.
In keeping with updated safety protocols, heading the ball is not allowed in any age group except 7th/8th grade. A free kick (indirect, as usual) will be awarded to the opposing team when players head the ball. Referees will remind teams of this rule prior to games.
There is no offsides rule in play.
Slide tackles are not allowed. Players cannot go to the ground when challenging an opponent for the ball.
Resumption of play following an injury is by either a drop ball (if, in the referee’s judgment, the ball was in neutral territory) or an indirect-kick restart (if one team was clearly in sole possession of the ball).
The goalie’s territory is marked by specific cones on the sideline, and the goalie can handle any ball as long as they are standing behind that line. When a goalie’s hand has ANY form of contact with the ball (full “possession” is not required), attacking players may not kick the ball. In age groups K–4th grade, a goalie may handle a ball that has been last played by a teammate. For 5th grade and up, the standard soccer rule is in effect: A goalie cannot handle the ball if it was last kicked (intentionally) by a teammate.
Our primary objective in Dave Fromer Soccer is to facilitate a positive athletic experience for our players. Sportsmanship is a top priority in our league. One aspect of this involves the handling of games that are mismatched in power or experience, which can result in lopsided scores. We ask parent coaches to act in collaboration with our refs to minimize the severity of blowouts. Measures that can come into play include moving a stronger offensive player back to defense or goalie, allowing a struggling team to add an additional player onto the field, instructing players to make three passes before shooting at the goal, or urging them to only shoot from long distances.
